Attending The Driftless Zone Star Party
This is our second year for this Star Party at this new location.

Being this is the second time we are at this new property, and concidering how well the first time went over,
The property owner has raised the limit of people they will allow on the property to 60 people.

<> So if you wish to attend, please contact us as soon as you can.  The Sooner the Better! E Mail us at

<>      Things are still somewhat in the planning stages. At the minimum we are offering you all a great observing site.
The last dark sky location between Chicago and Minneapolis. This is truly a remote site. There are no amenities of any kind.
No Water, No Power, No Shelter of any kind.  You must be totally self reliant and contained.
The only thing we are providing for sure is the dark site, and those wonderful porta-potties!

Weekend Schedule.  Be sure to fully understand the below schedule.
And the Rules at the bottom of this page, as well as the rules stated here in the weekend schedule..

Friday October 16th, 2009

We will be arriving Friday in the early afternoon around 2 PM or so. So, attendees can arrive anytime after that.

On Friday and Saturday Nights, There  will be a strict curfew!    We are all coming here for the dark skies right?
There will be absolutely no driving between 6 PM and 5 AM  Except in the case of an emergency of course.
So, if you have equipment to set up, and need your vehicle to do so, you MUST arrive before 6 PM.

Tents, campers, cars, are all allowed at the observing site,
Of course taller profile vehicles will hug the north boundary of the site.
But during curfew times once there they can not and will not be allowed to move till curfew is over the next morning.
(except in case of emergencies of course)

You can arrive later than 6 PM, but you will be parked off from the observing site and will need to Hike in your equipment.

If you can NOT stay the whole night, you MUST park park at the off site parking area, and walk into the observing area.

The curfew also applies to lighting. Between the hours of 6 PM and 5 AM it's the Dark Zone Time!
Absolutely no white lights. AND  absolutely no BRIGHT RED ones either!
We have been at star parties where someone will have a "RED"  light,  but it is soo bright, it still ruins everyone's night vision.
It MUST be a DIM RED light. Only bright enough to be able to see by.

Make sure your vehicle is also Dark Site friendly!  If lights operate inside or out they MUST be dim RED ONLY!

Saturday Daytime Activities.
<> Please be quiet.  Many people will be sleeping from their long night of Observing.
<><>
<> Late Saturday Afternoon.
<>
<> We hope to offer some sort of a Dinner for everyone.  Like the first year the Popular vote was, The Hobo Stew.
Where everyone attending brings something to add to the pot, and we cook up a warm stick to your ribs Hobo Stew!
So if this is again what everyone wants to do let us know as soon as possible so we can be ready for it. If wanted.
Otherwise as stated before, youre on your own.
But be sure everyone to let us know if you wish to participate in the Hobo Stew.

<> So, Everyone bring something to add to the Pot.  YUM!
A Hobo Stew Cookout

Where everyone brings something to add to the pot for all to enjoy!
Or How about as some of the past Star Parties we had for the Ridgetop Stargazers,
we had everyone bring a "Dish To Pass" type of dinner.
Where everyone brings some specialty item to share with everyone else?  How is that?  Again let us Know please!

Saturday Night:
More or Less the same as Friday Night. As far as the Observing goes.

Sunday:
We all hope we had a great weekend. And we need to finish this up at a reasonable hour.
So we request that you try to be all packed up and ready to leave as soon as you can.
We hope the site is empty and all cleaned up as if we were never there by 3 PM or so.

So PLEASE as soon as you can, Drop Us a Note and let us know if you plan on attending.
